
WaWuShan, also known as Shu Mountain, Ju Mountain, etc. (English name: WaWuShan Scenic Spot), is located in Hongya County, Meishan City, Sichuan Province, China. It gets its name because its shape resembles a tiled house. Covering an area of approximately 700 square kilometers, it is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, a provincial nature reserve and a provincial geopark.
WaWuShan is generally high in the west and low in the east, with a flat and broad mountaintop and many cliffs around it. It lies in the central subtropical humid monsoon climate zone of China, belonging to the mountain climate type with obvious vertical climate differences. From low to high altitudes, there are successively distributed the central subtropical zone in flat dam and hilly areas, the northern subtropical zone in low mountains, the warm temperate zone in mountains, the middle temperate zone in mountains, and the subalpine cold temperate zone. The overall annual average precipitation is 2238–2558 millimeters, the annual average sunshine hours are 330.0–744.9 hours, and the annual average temperature is 3.9–14.5°C.
The scenic spot is home to more than 3,600 species of plants, among which the national first-class protected plants include Davidia involucrata, Tetracentron sinense, Tsuga chinensis, etc. The total number of angiosperm families accounts for 60% of the world’s angiosperms, and it is known as the cradle and differentiation center of the world’s angiosperms. There are 6 species of national first-class protected animals such as giant pandas, gorals, black storks and Lophophorus lhuysii, and 17 species of national second-class protected animals such as red pandas and monkeys. In addition, WaWuShan is the birthplace of Taoism. Zhang Daoling of the Han Dynasty founded the Five Pecks of Rice Taoism here and left the Stele of Zhang Daoling. There are numerous scenic spots in the area, such as Ya’nv Lake, Jinhua Bridge, Lanxi Waterfall, Shuanglong Waterfall and Shuangdong Stream.
WaWuShan is the second largest table mountain in the world and the largest in Asia. In 2017, it was awarded the title of “The Most Beautiful Table Mountain” by Chinese National Geography. In March 2019, it was rated as a national AAAA-level tourist attraction, and in May of the same year, it was named “China Forest Oxygen Bar”. In November 2020, it was selected as one of the “Top Ten New Cultural and Tourism Landmarks in Chengdu-Chongqing Region – New Landmarks of the Bashu Cultural Tourism Corridor”.
From January to August 2024, WaWuShan Scenic Spot received 567,000 tourists, achieving a tourism revenue of 105 million yuan. The tourism revenue exceeded 100 million yuan 100 days ahead of schedule, accounting for about 40% of the total tourism revenue of A-level tourist attractions in Meishan City.
